Welcome – Our Story in Brief 🙏🏽

Early Years and Challenges

We met in 2001 and quickly started a family. By 2004, we were married with two children, navigating the complexities of young parenthood and struggling with limited perspectives. Despite these challenges, we pursued our educations and careers — Rudra in IT and Freyja as an occupational therapist.

The Turning Point

In February 2016, a life-changing plant medicine ceremony opened our hearts and minds to new possibilities. We decided to move to Brazil to learn more about these sacred medicines and embrace a new way of life.

The Journey to Brazil

One year later, we sold everything and moved with our children to a village in the mountain jungle of Brazil. There, we spent two transformative years supporting the Gaya-Kali Center, a family medicine center run by my sister and her husband. Their incredible work made the whole transformation possible, and we were honored to help build up their center while also welcoming our third child. We homeschooled our children and integrated family life with our medicine work, fostering a deep connection with nature.

Return to Germany

After two years, we returned to Leipzig, Germany to support our teenage children in finishing their schooling. During this time, Freyja took up city gardening, learned to cultivate plants, created a group for home-educating families for our youngest son, learned to play the guitar, and attended many singing circles. Rudra professionalized his IT skills and continued his passion as a DJ for electronic music, a field he has been dedicated to for 25 years. For the next five years, we focused on helping our children navigate their paths to independence.

Back to Our True Home

With our children on their way to independence, we returned to the jungle. Before our departure, we bought an amazing land on the outer edge of our beloved mountain jungle village. It contains almost 4 hectares of jungle, a small house with an open mountain view, and its own water source. This land inspires us with so many future visions. However, one week before our departure, Rudra unexpectedly lost his job, crossing the point of no return. With the financial base taken away and a big credit to pay, we embarked on our journey with trust and confidence, knowing this was where we were meant to be.

This is the beginning of Freyja Selva, our new home, and our new way of life. While we are not yet fully self-sustainable, this is our ultimate goal. We invite you to join us in this process, as we navigate the joys and challenges of sustainable living and discover the true essence of freedom and connection.
