Today I want to tell you about an exciting chapter in our lives. My husband Rudra and I have recently taken over my mother’s holiday home agency and are now facing the challenge of reviving this family business.
It all started when Rudra unexpectedly lost his job. After desperate attempts to find an online job as an IT specialist from Brazil, he eventually had to return to Germany to work there. So, since December, I have been alone in Brazil with our son, looking for ways to earn money. My social media profiles were full of offers on how to supposedly make a lot of money easily, but unfortunately, everything turned out to be not very promising.
A New Beginning with Finca Holidays
Then my mother came to visit from Germany. She told me that she no longer wanted to run her holiday home agency and finally wanted to enjoy her well-deserved retirement. We joked that I could take over Finca Holidays – after all, I had the time.
It was always my mother’s wish that I work at Finca Holidays, but I had always been very resistant. I never wanted to do a “desk job” and as a therapist, I had little experience with these things. But my mother lovingly trained me, and a wonderful new relationship developed between us.
My mother built the business on her own after her divorce from my father, while managing three children, the household, and a full-time job. It grew and was very successful in the market for many years. However, in the last five years, she had downsized the business and not done much with it. The database is neglected, and the system is outdated. Nevertheless, she was sad to give it up, as it was a bit like her fourth child. Moreover, Finca Holidays still offers a variety of beautiful holiday homes in Spain and is still well-listed on Google, so the chance of becoming successful again is real.

Rudra and our eldest son Oso are absolute IT experts. Oso has just finished his IT training and is a natural supporter with a special sense of family. They have taken on the technical side and are now refactoring the entire system. Their expertise and commitment are impressive and give us the confidence that we can bring Finca Holidays up to date. I take care of customer service and contacts with the property owners. We still have very few bookings and a lot of work, but the hope of making it big again, so that it can eventually support us and Rudra can finally come back home to the jungle, drives us. The dream of a family business that my mother had all these years has now come true.
And a home office in the jungle is really cool too.
Rudra and I are now not only partners, parents, and best friends, but also business partners. The joint work and the vision of making Fincaferien big again bring a new level to our relationship. It is incredibly enriching to work together on something that is close to both of our hearts.
